South Clairemont Recreation Center is more than just a building. It’s a place where our community comes together.
For years, Unidos Judo Club has proudly called this recreation center home. Thousands of children, teens, and adults have stepped onto these mats to build confidence, discipline, friendship, resilience, and belonging through one of the most affordable community programs in San Diego.
But this issue is bigger than judo.
Every week, South Clairemont Recreation Center serves local families through sports, dance, recreation, community gatherings, birthday parties, and neighborhood events. It is a space where kids stay active, families connect, and community is built.
Now, proposed City of San Diego budget cuts place South Clairemont Recreation Center at risk.
Closing or reducing access to this center would directly impact local youth programs, families, and community organizations throughout Clairemont.
We believe public recreation spaces matter.
Recreation centers provide:
Affordable youth activities
Safe spaces for kids and teens
Health and wellness opportunities
Community connection
Accessible programs for families of all income levels
Volunteer and mentorship opportunities
Positive alternatives to isolation and inactivity
Programs like Unidos Judo Club exist because public community spaces exist.
Without facilities like South Clairemont Recreation Center, many families lose access to affordable extracurricular programs entirely.
Please respectfully ask city leadership to protect South Clairemont Recreation Center during the upcoming budget process.
“I support protecting South Clairemont Recreation Center and preserving access to affordable community programs for Clairemont families.”
